One of J. Webb Wine Merchant's most popular tastings, September's Farmer Fizz is an annual celebration of the artisan producers of Champagne, not the corporate giants.
The Champagne region of France is experiencing a renaissance of sorts, in which the centuries old idea that all Champagne should be blended from several plots is being reconsidered. Champagnes from small producers are showcasing what is possible when crafting from a single vineyard. The results are truly outstanding.
You already prefer buying your food from a farmer, rather than a corporation, so why not apply the same principle to your wine? Champagne, not unlike engagement diamonds, has been cleverly marketed to imprint people with the notion it is the product for special occasions. While we agree that bubbly is indeed a perfect accompaniment to any fête, we also believe it needn’t be reserved for special occasions. In fact, any old day will do!
J. Webb is (rightly) very proud of its Champagne selection. They have worked hard to find small family estates that grow all of their own grapes and craft miniscule quantities of the region’s best (and usually least known) bubbles. Farmer Fizz is your chance to hear the stories behind these amazing wines while you taste a whole new generation of Champagne’s bright stars.
